Shopping with the Dragon at Jungle Pottery - FULL
Coach tour with lunch - FULL
Out west in Singapore, at Thow Kwang's Pottery Jungle, one of Singapore's last two dragon kilns regularly springs to life, reaching temperatures of over 1200 degrees to successfully fire the items in it's innards. When not in active mode, the dragon slumbers, surrounded by pottery workshops and seeming acres of ceramics for sale. Apart from local pieces, all fired in the 84 foot long kiln, there are a vast array of items imported from China for decorative or utilitarian household or garden use; from the fragile to the solid, from kitsch to gold rimmed, blue and white to Peranakan coloured.
On our way to the aptly named Pottery Jungle, our guide will inform us about the history, nature and future of the area. Once there, they will introduce us to the dragon kiln and the display areas. Quick shoppers can enjoy the semi-natural parkland of the surrounding CleanTech Park, across which lies the Jalan Bahar Clay Studios and the second remaining dragon kiln. We will also make a short stop at GreenCircle Eco-Farm to hear about their organic food deliveries into town, then finally head to Bollywood Veggies for lunch in Poison Ivy. A limited range of produce in on sale and you must remember to stock up on their delicious (and famous) homemade banana cake, yum!
Food is included, but drinks will be at guests own expense.
This is a joint tour shared with our friends at the AWA and is hosted by them.
Mosquito repellent is recommended. Soft drinks are on sale at Thow Kwang.
